Black belt students earning new black belts or promoted in May 2026.
We are so excited to share black belt news! On May 9, nine of our students from
our Oak Lawn and Orland Park schools earned new black belts! Seven of those students
earned their black belt for the first time, while the others were promoted to the next black belt
level, or dan.

Congratulations to the following students on their promotions: Morgan B., Axel G., Isabella V.,
Ruth R., Eduardo R., Frantz B., Sarah A., Jace S., and Ethan D.

We are so proud of their hard work and we are excited to seem them grow and set an example
for our color-belt students! We also would like to thank the parents of our black belts for the
many hours of driving them to and from class, spectating, and their endless support.

Here is what some of our black belts had to say about their taekwondo experience:

“Along the way, I’ve learned many things. Not just how to throw a punch, or do a kick.
I’ve learned more than that. I’ve [found a] community that has my back. I have
self-discipline that’ll last me a lifetime. I’ve come out a better person than I started,”
wrote Morgan B., black belt student, 14.

“When I first stepped onto the mats, I was not sure what a man of my age was doing in a
Dojo but taekwondo quickly taught me that the only limits that truly matter are the ones
we put on ourselves. This journey has given me more than just physical strength or the
ability to execute a form; it has given me a sense of clarity but also it has improved my
balance both physically and mentally. Everyday it has reminded me that growth has no
expiration date,” wrote Frantz B., black belt student, 68.

“Earning my taekwondo black belt will be one of my proudest accomplishments yet!
Joining taekwondo has truly been a wonderful experience that has helped me grow
stronger both physically and mentally,” wrote Ruth R., black belt student, 12.

“My journey at Joon Lee’s started almost two years ago. I remember being very nervous
during my trial class but loving the experience ever since. I have had a lot of fun doing
taekwondo. I love all the friends, leaders, and masters I have met along the way,” wrote
Axel G., black belt student, 10.

“Throughout all my life taekwondo has been involved whether it’s in the real world or in
classes it has grown to become a part of who I am,” wrote Sarah A., black belt student, 11.

Black belt testing takes place twice each year, after months of extra special black belt training, in
addition to regular classes. Our next black belt test will take place in November!
